Folk covers a huge range of songs and styles - I know that many of you are keen on Irish Folk in all its shades. As its the music that I listen to most from my own collections I thought I'd kick off some discussions here - who do you enjoy listening to?

Me too, he's currently broadcasting on British Radio and telling terrible jokes in his gravelly voice. Who'd have ever thought it?

Hi And, thanks for the post. I like most all traditional Irish and Scottish music, i prefer the slow airs and dances so that i can play along on flute. If i were younger maybe my fingers would move faster and i could play a jig or reel. ed

i'm partial to said jigs and reels, but i also love it all--my love extends to many different countries and cultures, too. these types of music bring me closer to pure spiritual moments than any other(although i certainly do like most other types).

I was interested to read recently that an old lp by a duo known as "MacMurrough" was worth a small fortune. I have the same album but on cassette. The album is called "Merry & Fine" I bought it at one of their live performances in the Castle Tavern in Carlow Town whilst on holiday in the very early 80`s. Can anyone tell me anything about the duo?
Some of the tracks included on the album are..."Croppy Boy", "Boolavogue" "Follow Me Up To Carlow", "Wexford Fishing Song".

Hi Shorty, there are tons of little Celtic bands everywhere. Here, in the Colorado Front range you can find them in every little community as well as the city. It's not uncommon to see the same musicians mixing and matching from one band to another and now that smoking in pubs is banned State wide, there are nice little sessions going on everywhere. takair ed

They used to be a three piece... 2 girls and a guy..but they got married [eh..ONE of the girls married the GUY! lol] and became a duo.

Time to tell you quickly about another little joy for me. (Have told this story in IC but it's worth repeating) Last night we had a concert at the Candlelighters- my local live music club- by a marvellous singer - songwriter, and I do mean MARVELLOUS, called Pete Abbott

At the end of the evening Pete said - "I'm feeling generous, I'll give a free CD to anyone who can tell me what this piece of music is that I've based this song on, and the composer". He then played the opening chords of Pachelbel's Canon in D, my absolute favourite piece of music.

He was as good as his word, and even signed the CD, bless him. I do have his other CD - one of only 100 made, but the new CD is even better. Do check him out, he deserves to be a star.

UK and Irish based IC'ers may note a strong resemblance to Anglo-Irish actor Todd Carty. (aka Grange Hill's Tucker, Eastenders' Mark Fowler, Gabriel the bent cop of The Bill) Except I bet Todd Carty can't sing, write or play like Pete Abbott.
