I've just had the word from Octek that daffodils bloom in Australia in the autumn (i.e. about now), but in England/Ireland they bloom in March/April in Spring - so in the same months but different seasons.

What are the experiences elsewhere in the world?

My first daffs usually bloom in early February; they are an early kind called February Gold and they are snugged up against the stone foundation on the south side of the house, the warmest spot in my yard. The last ones to bloom for me are Geranium, a multi-bloom cream and orange daff with a wonderful scent. They usually last until the end of April, but this year the warmth in March moved everything ahead. I love the white ones, including Thalia and Empress of Ireland. My most prolific are the short Tete-a-Tete; I dont always get 2 blooms on each stalk, but they are super hardy and breed like rabbits. I scatter them everywhere. I hope to get to the Guy Wilson collection in N. Ireland some spring. Has anyone been there??

They tend to bloom in New Zealand around July/August. We have Daffodil Day which is a money raiser for cancer in August.

Very interesting Fan.. my narcissus bloom in December. I don't have too many, enough for a 4 ft long planterbox.

On daffodil Day, do they sell the cut daffodills or the bulbs or anything and everything with them?

They say the strange weather pattern that we are having is causing a lot of flowers to be out when they should be...I don't mind

I've have my lilys blooms three times this year and they usually only bloom the once.

Mt roses haven't stopped blooming all year round. I don't know where to hack them back in May or not as they are all flowering...tsk?

Yes they have a Daffodil Day here in Australia also, to raise money for research for breast cancer. I always buy a Daffodil pen or brooch...

jools, generally with her rose bushes, mom would just make sure to keep the wilting blooms snipped off as long as the bushes were flowering and then trim the bush at end of season. my mom is a great fan and lover of roses and has 7 varieties of rose bushes in her yard. i recently planted 3, but new to it, so sticking close to what little i know from ma. mom is looking for a hard to find rose variety for her yard, but can't think of name right now--makes me want to think of a german word, though--odd. welcome and happy returns--wildflower

Great info came out about the daffodils around the world - something I still haven't got my head around.

Now want to check on a summer bulb (UK) - the gladioli - are they out now in Australia?

Daffodils,Jonquils etc alway are out in bloom here in Australia this time of year.

Maybe because our winter weather is like your Spring weather.

Our climate is a warmer one in comparison to the U.K.
It may be cold for us but people from the U.K. always wonder why we are cold.
It is what we are climitised to.
