As an Irish-American, I feel that Ireland has done very well when it comes to peace. The last thing you need is American Poloticians butting in.

Since the 1980s, 17 U.S. state legislatures have mandated that all state funds, invested in companies doing business in the six counties, be invested only in those companies subscribing to the McBride Principles.

The McBride Principles require that these companies have a non-discrimination policy and, in some cases, an affirmative action program.

Since these state funds include some very large pension funds, there is some clout behind these laws. They haven't been 100% successful (Hughes Christiansen for example) but they have influenced the hiring practices of a number of large companies. A positive example is Visteon, which had a 66% Protestant workforce in 1998 and now has a 50.6% Catholic workforce.

We worked hard to have these laws passed. The British government sent over large armies of lobbyists and government officials to campaign against passage of these principles. We prevailed.

yes you did indeed bill , visteon by the way is the ford motor company , other companys that had to change their tune here where coca cola ireland ltd ,lambeg co,antrim, the british agents who went to america to debunk the mcbride principles where mostly composed of what we call castle catholics , those catholics with a vested interest with the brit goverment , i.e members of the s.d.l.p the catholic church , and a certain nun who was head of the biggest girls school in ni , they found great difficulty indeed in arguing down mc bride after all who could argue with fair play , in regards to visteon they argued that 66% prod and 50.6 cath was a fair breakdown of the populace , the pro mcbride lobby pointed out that when broke down further the 50.6% cath workforce accounted for over 90% lower paid menial posts with almost no representation on management , visten cynicly used figures to include catholics who where employed by outside contractors working for visteon

P.S do you ever get the feeling that 89 west and a certain rosefairy are still on the page
