I am a Corkonian, born and reared in Cork City. I thought I'd better get that out of the way first.I left there many, many years ago, and now live in the W Midlands of England. I am fairly widely travelled, and have many interests, including History, Music, and the Arts. I am still studying with the Open University, just to keep my mind active. I am especially interested in the History of Cork. Despite several forays into Genealogy, I find it difficult to trace my family roots back any distance. I am firmly of the opinion that my forebears were either army deserters or rent dodgers. I imagine they hid behind the sofa when the census man called, under the mistaken impression that someone had called to collect the rent.I live alone, as I am a widower. Every year I travel to Cork, and spend a fortnight or so in West Cork, around Clonakilty. The scenery is fantastic, but don't tell anyone, as I would hate to have hordes of tourists descend on the area. If anyone has any intention of visiting there in the Summer, or has any requests for information about the area. please let me know, as I would be delighted to help. I hope I haven't rambled on too much. look forward to hearing from members...bye now!
