Tips for using the Ireland Calls Chat Facility

Everyone in IC is over 18 and in fact many of us are quite a bit more so we're not about to tell you what you can and can't do. However for some members this might be their first time in this kind of online community and a few pointers might be a help.

Name and Address

You're not likely to give your name and address to a perfect stranger you meet in the street so don't do it in here either.

Spoofers

It is inevitable that you will meet people in here who are not who or what they say they are. You could be chatting to someone pretending to be a member of the opposite sex in order to gain your confidence.

This isn't meant to frighten people off. An online community can be entertaining and educational. All we are saying is use common sense when dealing with people.

Handling Unwanted Attention

So if you do come across someone you don't like, for whatever reason, or if they are bothering you, what do you do? We believe that the best thing to do is ignore the person, don't talk to them, don't reply to any message what so ever. Don't let them "push your buttons" - use the silence feature.

Using the Silence Feature

If someone is annoying you in the chat room you should use the "silence feature" - see screen shot.

To use it:

  1. Click on the "nuisance" name to highlight it.
  2. Click on the ear with a slash through it.

Now you won't see any message they type into the chat room.
